Economic slowdown concern investors
.
The markets remain flat after over 4% loss in last week’s selling by the investors. Investors remain on an edge due to the ongoing bad housing loans and declining housing market. Disappointing manufacturing data and slipping consumer confidence about the US economy did not help the investors to move the markets. On Monday, February 18th, the US stock markets are closed for President’s Day holiday. The S&P500 gained 18 points or +1.4%, the DOW gained 166 points or +1.4% and the NASDAQ gained 11 points or +0.5% for the week ending February 15th, 2008.

Yahoo (Ticker Yhoo) shareholders rejected Microsoft (Ticker MSFT) offer to buy Yahoo for $45 billion (or $31 per share). Yahoo’s shareholders (the owner) decided that the Microsoft’s offer was too low. If Microsoft still wants to buy Yahoo, then Microsoft will have to find other ways to give incentive to Yahoo shareholders, such as, increase its offer. This could go on for some time until both parties agree or Microsoft backs down.
